Unlike previous presidents, he's shown an unprecedented willingness to negotiate and talk to actors that other presidents wanted to keep at arm's length. I'm thinking of North Korea here, for instance. Even Iran, he's been willing to contemplate greater concessions to Tehran than many of the most recent previous presidents have been willing to do. He's set out a vision of Iran rejoining the region and the world financially, economically, and there being some sort of a security arrangement that would keep Iran stable and safe as long as it operates like a normal government. So far, Tehran has not been interested in that deal. They also don't believe Donald Trump when he says that that's what his vision is, because he's attacked them twice in the middle of negotiations. So that's understandable. But again, I don't think that we find our way out of this conflict. Even the doves would not want to find their way out of this conflict in a way that leaves Iran in control of the Strait of Hormuz, all the shipping that goes through it, and therefore the economies of most, if not all of the Gulf countries, plus Iraq.
