A Jewish refugee tries opening a can of food. It slips, crashes to the floor. He looks up. A German officer is standing right behind him. World War II. The Nazis are hunting down every single Jew. But this officer doesn't recognize him. Not yet. He finds out the man is a pianist, demands a performance right there. The man plays, losing himself in the music. And that's when the officer notices something is off. The officer finds his hiding spot, turns around and walks out. The pianist thinks he's a dead man. But the next day, the officer returns. With food. Every day he brings supplies. Just to keep this talent alive. Too bad time is running out. The war is ending. Before retreating, the officer hands him a heavy German coat to survive the freezing cold. The pianist knows the danger. Wearing this coat makes him look like the enemy. Allied soldiers might shoot him on sight. He puts it on anyway. Not out of gratitude. He just has a desperate need to stay alive. The war ends. The German army surrenders.
