India's electricity generation capacity has grown significantly over the past decade. In 2000, the country had 101 GW of capacity. This rose to 105 GW in 2001, 107 GW in 2002, and 112 GW in 2003. By 2004, capacity reached 113 GW, followed by 124 GW in 2005. The numbers continued to climb: 127 GW in 2006, 133 GW in 2007, 143 GW in 2008, and 148 GW in 2009.
