Some flies can lay eggs inside your ear. This is a rare condition called myasis, where fly larvae invade living tissue. It typically occurs in warm, moist environments, often linked to poor hygiene or an existing ear infection. Flies are drawn to these conditions and deposit eggs in the ear canal. After hatching, the larvae feed on surrounding tissue and use tiny hooks to stay attached inside the canal. In severe cases, many maggots can develop at once, leading to intense pain, hearing loss, and inflammation. Doctors must carefully remove them with specialized instruments to avoid damaging delicate ear structures. It is a serious condition that requires urgent medical treatment to prevent complications and protect hearing.
