The boy wanted to take down his father's body, but the guard said it had to hang there all night. The next day it would even be thrown into the dump. At that moment the mistress's family also arrived at the execution grounds, standing nearby and speaking coldly about the boy's father. The boy wanted to argue with them, but the priest stopped him immediately, because it would only bring him more humiliation. The priest told him that the most important thing now was to stay alive. The boy silently swore to himself that one day he would make them kneel before him. He would never allow anyone to mock his father. Now he had no parents left. From this point on, he would have to rely on himself, because children without umbrellas have to run even harder in the rain. The boy went to work at a quarry as a laborer, but he was only 10 years old. How could he possibly carry such heavy stones? Thankfully the workers took good care of him. They helped tie a headscarf around him, and even gave him smaller stones to carry. Even so, the work was still exhausting for the boy. Every step required all the strength in his body, but he gritted his teeth and endured it, because deep in his heart he held onto one belief, for the Virgin Mary, for his father, and for himself. Just like that, the boy worked in the quarry for 10 years. He eventually grew into a tall and handsome young man. One day when he returned home, he met Alice, the daughter of a new tenant. With just one glance, feelings sparked between them. Because there were not enough rooms, their room had to be given to the new tenants. Out of respect for the young man's father, the landlord allowed them to sleep downstairs on the floor. During dinner, their eyes could never leave each other. This scene happened to be noticed by the girl's father. How could he possibly approve of a mere laborer? He scolded his daughter and told her to return to her room after eating. But whenever they had the chance, they would still exchange a few words, and every time they parted, it was with reluctance. One day Alice secretly went to visit the young man, while buying groceries, but her brother discovered her. He forcibly dragged Alice back home, and told their father everything. Her father warned the young man to stay away from his daughter, otherwise he would have the landlord throw them out. But the young man did not back down. He went to the church and found the priest.
