OpenAI proposes government stake
by Kelsey7f: Sam Altman
Sam Altman has proposed granting the U.S. government a 5% equity stake in OpenAI, and reports suggest the offer could be extended to other leading AI firms as well. OpenAI proposes a government stake in the company. So OpenAI offered the Trump administration a 5% equity stake to reduce political hurdles. Sam Altman pitched it as sharing AI profits with the American public. The proposal may extend to other major US AI companies. And this is sparking debates over government becoming a shareholder and a regulator in the world of AI. any initial thoughts yeah it's just like could this have been the plan all along to maintain control that's very very possible yeah I mean you know we've heard these rumblings of this and we've seen the precedent of once again intel has been purchased by the u.s government um it's not gonna be crazy for especially when these companies go public i guess for the government to be able to take a stake in the company to buy the company um and or i guess just be gifted equity also goes back to that ripple conversation a lot of people were saying oh ripple is going to hand over the escrow to the united states government and uh it's like the government is accepting donations okay this is kind of what we've seen and what we may continue to see.
