An attorney general in Texas is going after what he calls birth tourism. Ken Paxton is suing a business accused of bringing pregnant women into the country so their children can have U.S. citizenship. Correspondent Brooke Taylor has details tonight from Dallas. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says birth tourism is a massive underground and highly lucrative industry. Now he's suing a Houston area center accused of encouraging pregnant Chinese women to come to the facility, give birth in the U.S., and secure citizenship for their children. Court filings claim the operation has been running for more than two decades, even boasting it's helped deliver over 1,000 American-born babies. The business is accused of operating out of at least four homes in the Houston area, targeting Chinese clients through social media and marketing the experience as first class, promising comfortable housing and access to U.S. hospitals. In the filing, Paxton claims organizers coach pregnant women on how to get around U.S. immigration rules, even telling them to apply for visas before pregnancy to avoid red flags. Texas Congressman Chip Roy calls it appalling. We need to go after these unscrupulous corporate entities making profit, running people in here to gain American citizenship. The lawsuit now feeding into a much bigger national fight as birthright citizenship heads to the Supreme Court And the Trump administration looks to limit automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants.
