I was washing my face in the mirror. I didn't notice my reflection. Its movements were slightly off. I looked up. The reflection synced with me perfectly again. I've always been shy and insecure. Nobody at school wants to be my friend. At home, Dad looks at me with nothing but disgust. That night at dinner, I couldn't take it anymore. I pushed my chair back and ran to my room. Dad's cold voice followed me down the hall. We have a screwed up daughter. I burst into my room with tears streaming down. Through blurry eyes, I saw an old photo tucked in the mirror. Mom's ultrasound from when she was pregnant. I wiped my tears and looked closer. The image clearly showed two babies. I was supposed to have a twin sister. Where did she go? Late that night, I stood at the mirror again. A thin fog covered the surface. I wiped it away with my hand. The person in the mirror was staring straight at me. I scrambled out of the bathroom, terrified. I couldn't sleep all night. The next day at school, I was totally out of it. A boy stuck out his foot on purpose. I hit the ground hard. My knees burned with pain. I'm used to this humiliation. I just got up quietly. My best friend stood right there. She saw everything, but pretended she didn't. Only her boyfriend stepped in. He chased that jerk away. Hey, no! Hey, chill! Baby, it's not worth it. You okay? Yeah. I've secretly liked him forever. but he's the hockey team star. She's the figure skating champion. They seem like the perfect couple. What am I compared to them? Back home, I heard someone calling my name. The voice came from the bathroom. My heart was pounding out of my chest. I inched closer step by step The person in the mirror slowly turned around Who are you You don remember me What do you want from me I can take your sadness away She looked exactly like me but she was so beautiful so confident Was this my missing sister? The next day, my friend offered to teach me skating. She took me to an abandoned ice rink. She held my hand for a few steps, then suddenly let go. I crashed hard onto the ice. Pain shot through my whole body. I reached out begging her to help me out. She laughed coldly and told me the truth. He's mining now. What? You know who I'm talking about. She knew all along I liked her boyfriend. She wasn't here to teach me skating. She was here to warn me. That night, I cried to the mirror. The reflection's voice whispered in my ear. She said she could grant all my wishes if I just let her out. Come on. I can fix things. I was about to touch the mirror. Mom walked in. Yeah. She gave me a crystal crown, told me to have fun at the skating party. But I don't even know how to skate. At the party, I stepped onto the ice and started slipping. My legs wouldn't stop shaking. He appeared again. He took my hand and guided me slowly across the ice. My heart was melting until I saw my friend's eyes full of hatred. I panicked and fell to the ground. Another boy reached out his hand. I thought he was helping me up. Instead, he grabbed my wrist and dragged me across the ice. Everyone was laughing. I was completely humiliated. I got up and stumbled home. My emotions completely shattered. I stood at the mirror sobbing uncontrollably. Everybody needs you now. No. Let me take your pain away. Just close your eyes. Kiss me.
