The streets were still wet after the rain. Anna was about to cross the road when a car sped past, splashing muddy water all over her. To make matters worse, the driver didn't even stop to apologize. Instead, he accelerated and drove away without looking back. In a terrible mood, Anna walked into a fried chicken restaurant. While waiting for her order, her attention was drawn to a man and a woman she didn't recognize. Just then, a blonde girl walked past the window, and the man suddenly ducked down. The woman sitting beside him sarcastically remarked, I guess he recognized the car he parked outside, Following the woman's gaze, Anna looked out the window and froze. It was the exact same car that had splashed her moments earlier. Before she could react, the blonde girl turned around and came back. Without a second thought, Anna shouted toward the door, She's here! Watching the man get cornered by his ex-girlfriend instantly lifted Anna's mood. What she never expected was that this almost ridiculous encounter would mark the beginning of a special connection between them. Anna was an outstanding student. She had loved poetry since she was a child. The person she admired most was Professor Stephen from Oxford University. So when it came time to choose a school, she didn't hesitate to pick Oxford. However, on registration day, she received disappointing news. Professor Steven had just been appointed dean of the graduate school and wouldn't be teaching for the entire semester. Just as the students were sinking into disappointment, the substitute professor walked into the classroom. Anna froze in her seat because the man standing at the podium was the same person who had splashed her with his car and hidden from his ex-girlfriend at the fried chicken restaurant. The substitute professor's name was Jamie. Handsome and witty, he quickly became popular with everyone. During the break, the other students gathered around to share some cake. Only Anna sat by herself. Jamie soon noticed her and walked over to say hello. When he learned that she didn't like cake, he deliberately cut her a large slice. Anna turned him down coldly but Jamie smiled and insisted even mentioning that he had baked it himself Anna could tell that he was teasing her on purpose Although she felt slightly annoyed she reluctantly accepted it For the rest of the class she couldn concentrate at all As soon as the bell rang, she stood up to leave. But Jamie stopped her. Anna assumed he was about to tease her again. Instead, Jamie sincerely apologized. He explained that he had been in a hurry the previous day and hadn't been able to stop after splashing her. Faced with the cake and the belated apology, Anna couldn't help feeling a bit ironic about the whole situation. Still, considering that they were now teacher and student, she simply replied, it's fine. Later, a few classmates invited Anna to a bar. Even though she didn't enjoy noisy places, she reluctantly agreed. At first, everyone was having a good time, but when Anna returned from the restroom, a young man suddenly blocked her path. As he continued harassing her, Anna grabbed a glass of ice water from the table and threw it in his face. The man became furious and was about to attack her. At that moment, Jamie stepped in and stopped him. After leaving the bar, Jamie followed Anna. She coldly told him that she didn't need his help, but Jamie refused to give up. He stayed by her side, talking nonstop as they walked. Remembering that he had just helped her, Anna finally accepted his company. Then she took him to another bar, one that was much quieter. The two sat across from each other. Curious, Jamie asked, why did you choose Oxford? Anna honestly admitted that it was part of her life plan. Coming from an ordinary family, she had always excelled academically. After graduating from college, she had already secured a job offer from a major company. But in order to earn a higher salary and strengthen her competitiveness, she decided to postpone starting her career and spend a year studying at Oxford instead. The ambition and determination in Anna's eyes were things Jamie, who had grown up in a wealthy family, had never truly experienced. It was difficult for him to understand that kind of pressure. And when the two began discussing their views on life, differences naturally emerged between them. Neither could convince the other, and both stood firmly by their own beliefs.
