Faraday waves in a bowl

Edge-induced Faraday waves occur when you rub the rim of a bowl, causing the edge to vibrate. This vibration travels through the water from the edge inward. When the vibration reaches a certain intensity, the flat water surface breaks into regular standing wave patterns.
