Honestly, the amount of quality content you get for that price is wild. It's basically free TV if you think about it.

people who hate public broadcasting are just working for the billionaires who want to buy the news.

Without the BBC, the whole industry collapses into American copycats and no one cares about local stories anymore. It's the only thing keeping British creativity alive.

CBeebies literally saved my sanity during lockdown with shows that actually teach without being boring. My toddler is obsessed with inclusive stories like Maddie and Triggs too, worth every penny of the license just for that.

the content is solid but the whole billing setup feels like they're treating you like a suspect from day one

exactly, letting private corps run the airwaves would just turn everything into a paywall

honestly same, the fee is annoying but losing that public service would be way worse

exactly, handing it over to Disney or Amazon means everything becomes subscription-only. the license fee keeps a slice of media public and actually accessible.
