Take The Truman Show. Truman walks out that door into the 'real world' and it feels like a huge win. But think about it: he knows nothing, has no skills, and a bunch of strangers are obsessed with him. It's a psychological mess disguised as a triumph.
Shaun of the Dead does it too. It ends like a sitcom, with him getting the girl and playing games. But the zombie apocalypse actually happened, their friends got eaten, and they're keeping his zombified best mate chained up. The trauma would be insane.
