Beehive fencing keeps elephants away from Kenyan farms

Imagine relying on something as small as a bee to keep Africa's largest land mammal at bay from your fields. In Kenya, farmers have turned to an ingenious method called beehive fencing to solve this exact problem. The system works by connecting individual hives with wires, ensuring that when an elephant bumps into the structure, the movement agitates the bees inside. Since these massive creatures naturally steer clear of disturbed insects, dangerous confrontations drop significantly and crop damage is minimized. On top of creating a safer environment for both sides, the setup also yields honey, giving farmers a valuable extra income stream while actively supporting peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.
