Ilhan Omar home search and her father's record

Saeed Ibrahim's question is the one worth sitting with: "Perpetrators cannot claim to be refugees at the same time alongside the same people that they brutalized." He founded the Somaliland Chronicle, and what he's getting at is narrower than it sounds. Regimes fall, officers scatter into the crowds they once fled, and Washington sent one former colonel from the Barre years out of the country after he turned up driving for Uber. Which brings it back to Nur Omar Mohamed. The New York Post reports he held the rank of full colonel under Siad Barre, whose army flattened Hargeisa and left tens of thousands of Isaaq civilians dead. Ibrahim says the colonel's posting put him in Hargeisa during the shelling. Nothing has been produced showing he personally killed anyone, and he died in 2020. He came to the US as a refugee in the 1990s. Federal agents searched Ilhan Omar's home over the paperwork he filed, she denies any wrongdoing and calls the October 12 raid political, and whether his rank appeared on those forms may be what the case comes down to. Somalilanders still want answers about Hargeisa.
