Top 10 French gay romance movies

Ten French films where gay love, desire and heartbreak get room to breathe, and every one of them earns the words intimate, raw and unforgettable. That's the thing about French gay cinema: it rarely settles for the standard romance template, pushing instead into passion, vulnerability, identity and how tangled human relationships can get. Été 85 (Summer of 85), 2020, brings a summer fling soaked in passion and melancholy, the kind that leaves a bittersweet aftertaste. 120 Battements par minute (BPM), 2017, turns AIDS activism, love and heartbreak into a powerful, moving drama. Théo et Hugo dans le même bateau (Théo & Hugo), 2016, opens on a chance encounter at a sex club and lets it grow into a connection nobody planned for. Presque rien (Come Undone), 2000, goes intense on a summer romance, digging into desire, identity and how emotionally exposed you can get. Quand on a 17 ans (Being 17), 2016, puts two teenage boys in rivalry and lets it quietly shift into something deeper. L'Inconnu du lac (Stranger by the Lake), 2013, is a hypnotic thriller where forbidden desire, obsession and danger all crash into each other. Les Roseaux sauvages (Wild Reeds), 1994, handles sexuality, friendship and figuring yourself out with a poet's touch, coming-of-age style. Sauvage (Wild), 2018, gives an unflinching portrait of a young sex worker chasing love and human connection. Plaire, aimer et courir vite (Sorry Angel), 2018, is tender and bittersweet, a romance unfolding during the AIDS crisis. Drôle de Félix (The Adventures of Felix), 2000, takes the road movie somewhere warm, covering identity, family and the connections you never expect. Pick any entry point, honestly
