Macron on Trappes and La Verrière attack

A car pulled up around 10:30 a.m. and someone inside opened fire with an automatic weapon on people in the street. That's what left one dead and five seriously injured across Trappes and La Verrière. The suspect, 39, is in custody, and the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation. Emmanuel Macron's response came as a declaration: he condemned the attack as terrorist and racist in nature. His read is that the act is of extreme gravity, and that its proven racist character marks a turning point for France. He then called on the French people to unite against hatred and persecution tied to skin color or religion. "We are facing an act of extreme gravity and which, by its proven rac*ist nature, marks a turning point for our country. There is nothing more important tonight. A France that fights rac*ism, anti-S*emitism and all forms of ha*tred and pers*ecution based on religion or skin color. It is this France that we must defend," he said. Nothing more important than that France, in his words. And that it has to be defended #EmmanuelMacron #Politics
