Cyndi Lauper on Nicki Minaj

Cyndi Lauper told The Guardian she doesn't believe in cancel culture and has no regrets about letting Nicki Minaj sample 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' despite their political differences. She described the track as inherently political anyway, insisting that people are entitled to a joyful experience in this world. Lauper pointed out that women aren't confined to rice fields anymore since they have risen up and put their foot down. She argued against canceling individuals because it eliminates any room for discussion or evolution. Her stance was clear: if you want others to listen to you, you first need to listen to them. While admitting she doesn't know what Minaj is doing now, Lauper emphasized that preventing people from evolving makes no sense.
