AfD Alice Weidel EU reform plan

Alice Weidel is pushing the AfD to strip Brussels of its power by 2029, and the plan involves scrapping direct elections for the European Parliament while shrinking the EU executive branch. The strategy calls for slashing the budget and returning major powers to individual member states instead. Germany holds a massive financial lever here since the party wants to threaten withholding funding unless Brussels accepts sweeping reforms on immigration, taxation, and defense. They are explicitly seeking exemptions from those rules. If the demands get ignored, the proposal includes holding a referendum on whether Germany should leave the EU entirely.
