Chile received Michael with near presidential honors during the Dangerous World Tour, and the arrival at Pudahuel Airport in Santiago from Brazil in 1993 proved it. The tarmac erupted as children dressed as huasos waited with gifts including ponchos, spurs, and copihues while Bafochi dancers performed a traditional cueca/esquinazo. Hundreds of fans pressed against barriers while Carabineros provided a motorcycle escort to a bulletproof car prepared to transport him to the Hyatt.
