Hamam Steam The Turkish Bath Ferzan Özpetek

Ferzan Özpetek's Hamam (Steam: The Turkish Bath) is the kind of film where the setting does the seducing. A Roman designer named Francesco heads to Istanbul to offload a traditional bath his late aunt left him, and instead of closing the deal he gets swallowed up by the city's culture and the people in it. Then comes the unexpected desire, and the whole plan starts to crack. Alessandro Gassmann and Mehmet Günsür lead the Italian-Turkish drama, which sits with questions of identity and intimacy while a man's tidy life comes apart at the seams. The cinematography is atmospheric, the same-sex attraction is handled with real tenderness, and what you get is a self-discovery story told through steam, water, and contact with other people. 🍿
