Trump claim on Canada 51st state

Canada's sovereignty and its own distinct identity are back at the center of the conversation, and the reason is a claim from US President Donald Trump that Canadians are itching to have their country folded in as the 51st state of the United States. A CNN fact-check article pushes back on that, noting the prospect of Canada joining as a state is unpopular with Canadians, and the public sentiment up north along with conditions on the ground paint a completely different picture from what Trump asserted. Trade disputes between the two countries are still dragging on through all of this. So the real question hanging over it: will Canadians stay firmly attached to their identity as an independent nation? Drop your opinion in the comments
