Actors and their most iconic movies

Here's the thing about a list like this: it's basically a spreadsheet of one role per actor, and the years do a lot of the talking. Al Pacino and The Godfather go back to 1972, Amitabh Bachchan lands with Sholay in 1975, and then 1976 doubles up with Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver and Sylvester Stallone in Rocky. The nineties get crowded fast. Morgan Freeman and Tom Hanks both sit in 1994 via The Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth share 1995 with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Baashha, and 1997 hands us Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic alongside Will Smith in Men in Black. Jackie Chan checks in for 1998 with Rush Hour, then Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves close the decade on Fight Club and The Matrix in 1999. After that it scatters. Johnny Depp with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003, Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man in 2008, Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots in 2009, Salman Khan with Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015, Dwayne Johnson in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017, and Tom Cruise taking the latest slot with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. Flags tag each name by country, and the compilation leans on data from The Numbers, AFI, IMDb and further web sources.
