Lonesome George last Pinta Island tortoise

How many more creatures vanish before the world actually takes conservation seriously? That is the question hanging over Lonesome George, a Galápagos giant tortoise who stood as the final known member of the Pinta Island tortoise subspecies. For decades, teams of conservationists searched for a mate for him without success. When he passed away in 2012, his entire evolutionary lineage vanished with him. This outcome proves that losing a species might be irreversible. His story serves as a stark reminder of what happens when we fail to act. #NatureScenery
