Digital refereeing cards in Uruguay

The future of refereeing might have arrived early, or maybe it just landed as an unnecessary fix. During the round of 16 for the AUF Uruguay Cup between Nacional and Rentistas, referee Eduardo Varela put digital cards with electronic screens to the test. The system was built to digitize every decision on the pitch, but the execution sparked immediate controversy because the card colors are nearly impossible to distinguish from certain angles. Many fans weren't convinced by the innovation at all, leaving us to wonder if this is actually progress or just a solution looking for a problem. It forces you to ask whether we really needed this tech change or if the traditional methods were already doing their job fine.
