Olivier Giroud leaves MLS for Lille

Olivier Giroud made a blunt call that the United States is not a football country after his time in the MLS. He won the U.S. Open Cup with LAFC but still said he missed the passion, fervor, and competitiveness of European stadiums so much he decided to leave for France and play for Lille. The whole thing raises the question: is the MLS actually on par with Europe or did he just miss something specific?
