La ley del deseo 1987 Almodóvar

El Deseo didn't exist until this movie gave it a reason to. Before La ley del deseo arrived in 1987, Pedro Almodóvar didn't have his own production company. Then this became the first project under that banner, and it's a wild one to start with. Eusebio Poncela plays a gay filmmaker caught in a spiral, and what pulls him under is Antonio Banderas as an admirer whose possessiveness turns genuinely dangerous, a role that landed early and stuck. Carmen Maura is there too, playing the filmmaker's transgender sister. Jealousy, fixation, desire that won't stay in bounds. The film took the Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and it still gets called one of Almodóvar's most unapologetically queer works. Provocative and stylish, and it carries an NC-17. 102 minutes. Starring Eusebio Poncela, Carmen Maura, Antonio Banderas 🍿
