    Trump Greenland deal handshake

Greenland's lawmakers appear close to backing an agreement with Washington, and the terms being floated are substantial: two more American military installations on the island, plus a stepping stone for the U.S. Golden Dome missile defense network. What Greenland would get out of it is formal acknowledgment of its right to self-rule, with Danish sovereignty still in place. That's the argument supporters are making. It isn't landing with everyone. Opposition lawmakers in the legislature are asking why Washington ends up with broad military rights while Greenland isn't guaranteed any money at all in return. The government's reply is that American protection counts for more than a payment would. For Trump, whose earlier posture toward the island was openly threatening, that's a notable reversal. So is this a clean Win-Win, or the Art of the Deal?
