Miguel Tojo paired Kun Agüero and Leo up in a shared room back in 2005, but the friendship didn't start with recognition. During a youth national team gathering in Argentina, Agüero sat between Ezequiel Garay and Lautaro Formica while they chatted about sneakers. When Leo mentioned something about the United States, Agüero had no clue who he was because he only watched matches from home, not abroad. He asked for his name, getting 'Lionel' first, which sounded familiar since his own second name is Leonel, then 'Messi'. It wasn't until Formica pointed out that this guy was famous that Agüero connected the dots from news about a Barcelona player. The realization hit hard at the first training session when he saw how well Messi flew through the air. Once they started laughing together, the ice broke completely and they became friends right there.
