Netanyahu slams Nobel Committee over Navi Pillay prize

The Nobel Committee handed the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to South African judge Navi Pillay on October 9, 2026, and framed the honor around her push for peace and international law. Pillay is 85. She once held the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights post, and she chaired a UN commission whose conclusion was that genocide happened in Gaza. Israel firmly rejects that conclusion. Benjamin Netanyahu pushed back hard. The Israeli Prime Minister went on X and said the Nobel Committee had "lost its moral compass." He accused Pillay of spreading false allegations against Israel and claimed she contributed to what he called a "fallacious dossier" against the country. The Committee defended its pick anyway, praising Pillay's record on international law and stressing that holding people accountable for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes was the whole point.
