Shigella resistance warning

A disease that once yielded easily to treatment is now described by researchers as being close to untreatable. Scientists warn that sexually transmitted Shigella has reached a critical point where certain strains have developed resistance to azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, and ceftriaxone. While severe cases of the infection may still require antibiotic intervention, the shift in treatability is stark. One researcher noted the transition from easy management to near-untreatability.
