When the conversation turns to fighting fascism, the requirement for a broad coalition inside the Democratic Party becomes non-negotiable according to Adam Mockler. He notes that in every podcast appearance or debate setting, he faces the same interrogation: does he disavow Hasan Piker, and specifically regarding comments made back in 2019? His response is straightforward, acknowledging that even Hasan Piker has expressed disagreement with some of his own past remarks, yet insisting that policy disagreements do not preclude working together when the stakes involve defeating fascism. Mockler draws a direct parallel to the WW2 alliance, where communists, socialists, liberals, and Republican-leaning figures all coalesced to defeat fascists, arguing that if it is Hasan Piker or Liz Cheney, they are welcome in the tent regardless of their history. Hasan Piker agrees with this assessment, frequently using FDR, Churchill, and Stalin as the necessary forces required to combat international fascism rather than just a domestic issue. He emphasizes that there is no opportunity to cast aside potential allies because of a twisted moral purity attitude that gets in the way of the larger fight. Beyond the coalition argument, Hasan Piker clarifies his stance on internal criticism, stating he has always said he does not care about people attacking him within the Democratic Party, including attacks from former Republicans like Sarah Longwell who have worked on Republican campaigns. His frustration with Neera Tanden and Sarah Longwell does not stem from the fact that they are former Republicans now wanting Democrats to win, but rather from their focus on distractions and perceived factional agendas within the party. This entire exchange took place via Slate, where the discussion highlighted the tension between moral purity and strategic necessity.
