    Guadeloupe football federation bankruptcy

Guadeloupe's football federation went bankrupt a month ago. That's the part that explains everything else. At the 2025 Gold Cup, 21 of the 26 players called up were based abroad. Now the national team draws almost entirely from the local league. Running a national side isn't free. There are flights to book, camps to run, a coaching staff to pay, logistics to sort out. When the money dries up, the level of play follows it down. The structural problem: Guadeloupe belongs to CONCACAF but not FIFA. No FIFA membership means no development money from them, so the pool was always going to be shallow. So the French Football Federation stepped in and helped set up a new local body on a shoestring, which will handle the team's technical side. From a squad full of players based overseas to one built almost entirely on local football. That's the whole story in one line.
