Chicken meat production by country 2024

Something worth knowing about chicken: it's one of the biggest animal-protein sources on the planet, and output keeps climbing across the Americas, Asia and beyond. Here's how the 2024 FAOSTAT board shakes out. The United States holds the top spot with 20,176,636 tonnes. China is next at 15,350,000 tonnes. Brazil rounds out the podium at 13,714,702 tonnes. Stack those three together and you get roughly 38.4% of the world's total. After that the gaps get wider. Russia lands fourth at 5,457,330 tonnes. India is fifth with 5,019,410 tonnes. Indonesia sixth at 4,179,444 tonnes. Mexico seventh at 4,013,216 tonnes. Egypt eighth, 2,598,604 tonnes. Türkiye ninth at 2,512,131 tonnes. Japan tenth at 2,466,967 tonnes. Poland eleventh at 2,433,000 tonnes. Pakistan twelfth at 2,362,000 tonnes. Argentina thirteenth at 2,304,000 tonnes. Iran fourteenth at 2,268,600 tonnes. Thailand fifteenth at 1,918,000 tonnes. South Africa sixteenth at 1,915,000 tonnes. Peru seventeenth at 1,859,200 tonnes. The United Kingdom eighteenth at 1,852,000 tonnes. Colombia nineteenth at 1,821,800 tonnes. Malaysia closes the twenty at 1,602,620 tonnes. One thing to keep straight: FAOSTAT lists this as "Meat of chickens, fresh or chilled," so turkey, duck and other poultry don't count here. Global output for the year sits around 128.3 million tonnes. The US alone cleared 20 million tonnes. Brazil is a heavyweight in poultry, and a big exporter of it too, but production and exports aren't the same yardstick, so leading this chart doesn't automatically mean leading the export table.
