    Global taro production rankings 2024

Taro doesn't usually make headlines, but the 2024 production numbers are worth a look. Nigeria sits at the top with 8.61 million tonnes, and Cameroon follows at 1.95 million tonnes. China's output was 1.89 million tonnes, Ethiopia came in at 1.79 million tonnes, and Ghana rounded out the million-plus club with 1.77 million tonnes. Then the numbers drop hard. Papua New Guinea harvested 277,300 tonnes, Madagascar 234,700 tonnes, Rwanda 203,700 tonnes. Chad produced 143,600 tonnes and Guinea 128,100 tonnes. Japan and Egypt are nearly tied at 118,500 and 118,400 tonnes. Thailand yielded 105,800 tonnes, the Philippines 93,800 tonnes, Côte d'Ivoire 91,200 tonnes, Gabon 88,800 tonnes, Laos 77,000 tonnes. DR Congo and Burundi each hit 70,000 tonnes, and Fiji closes it out at 68,100 tonnes. The data comes from FAOSTAT (2024), with calculations and presentation by Terra Cultiva. Worth noting those figures can be official, estimated, or imputed observations.
