Billy Ray Harris returns diamond ring

It started with a donation cup on a Kansas City street in 2013 where Billy Ray Harris was living without a home. A woman accidentally dropped her diamond engagement ring into the cup and walked away not knowing it happened. Harris had the chance to sell the ring given his circumstances but he chose to keep it safe while waiting for the owner to show up. The woman eventually came back and Harris handed the ring right over instead of keeping it for himself. Once that happened the story spread everywhere because people were genuinely moved by his choice to wait rather than take the money. That reaction led directly to a fundraiser being set up in his name. The community effort raised over $100,000 for Harris thanks to how far the news traveled.
