    Oculus 9/11 tribute New York

Lower Manhattan's comeback after 9/11 runs right through the Oculus. The structure sits on the exact ground where the original World Trade Center PATH station used to operate, and it ended up playing a real role in the area's recovery. Santiago Calatrava is the architect behind it, and he shaped the whole thing out of white steel that weighs thousands of tons, which is what gives it that unmistakable look. The design is all about light, movement, and rebuilding. Then there's the detail most people walk past without knowing: every September 11, sunlight comes through the building during the same morning window when the attacks happened. Thousands of people move through it daily, and a lot of them have no idea how much symbolism is built into the space around them. It went up on a site connected to one of the darkest chapters in New York's history, but the building itself is pointed forward.
