2024 cabbage production rankings by country

Cabbage isn't just a side dish or a salad ingredient; it's a massive global crop that feeds people fresh, powers fermentation, and keeps national food security standing while supporting farmer livelihoods across markets. When you look at who actually grew the most in 2024, China dominates with 36,201,344 tonnes, which is a huge gap over anyone else. India comes in second with 10,431,705 tonnes, but then the numbers drop significantly before Russia enters the conversation with 2,620,000 tonnes. South Korea follows closely behind Russia at 2,378,687 tonnes, and Ukraine adds another 1,560,400 tonnes to the tally. Indonesia produced 1,455,934 tonnes while Japan contributed 1,413,266 tonnes to the global total. Ethiopia rounds out the top tier with 1,222,178 tonnes, and Vietnam chases right behind them with 1,164,883 tonnes. The United States sits next with 936,714 tonnes, just ahead of Türkiye who made 912,839 tonnes. Kenya produced 904,452 tonnes, Uzbekistan added 814,300 tonnes, and North Korea brought in 700,200 tonnes. Germany harvested 698,840 tonnes, Zimbabwe contributed 631,700 tonnes, and Niger finished with 624,400 tonnes. Taiwan produced 619,900 tonnes, though Poland and Egypt also have significant production figures to note. All these stats come from FAOSTAT for 2024 via Terra Cultiva, where some values are estimates or rounded to the nearest tonne.
