    PS5 QSSR upscaling update

Getting more detail out of the base PlayStation 5 without buying a PS5 Pro is the real headline here. A new update is bringing AI upscaling to the standard console, and it's called QSSR, short for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Think of it as a lighter take on PSSR, the upscaling that has stayed exclusive to the PS5 Pro. The base hardware wasn't built with this kind of AI work in mind, so QSSR leans on FP16 math instead of the INT8 math PSSR uses, and the goal is to land in a similar place when it comes to sharpness and holding a stable image over time. Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei are the first two games getting the feature through an update, and support for more titles is planned beyond that pair. Comparisons show how much more detail you can pick out on buildings with QSSR running on a regular PS5 next to the standard mode. Honestly, this is fantastic news considering that new hardware is getting more expensive as time goes on, the life cycle of PS5 will be extended further and it is a free upgrade!
