🎬📺Fargo (1996) 4/5⭐ Fargo isn’t a crime movie. It’s a documentary about what happens when Midwestern politeness meets a man who thinks $80,000 is a personality. Jerry Lundegaard is the most American villain ever: not evil, just so desperately mid that he outsources murder like he’s ordering extra ranch. The Coens didn’t write a script. They recorded a sales meeting that went feral. Marge Gunderson is the only hero in cinema who can look at a wood chipper, a pregnant belly, and a beautiful day and still ask the only question that matters: “For a little bit of money?” Frances McDormand didn’t play a cop. She played the last functioning adult in America. Two more months. You betcha. The wood chipper scene is not the most violent moment in Fargo. The most violent moment is Marge eating lunch after finding three corpses and still being hungry. That is the film’s actual thesis: evil is loud and stupid. Goodness just wants a sandwich and to go home to Norm. ⭐Synopsis: A car salesman tries to solve his money problems with a kidnapping. It goes so poorly that a pregnant police chief has to explain the concept of “enough” to a man feeding his coworker into landscaping equipment. Based on a true story (it wasn’t).
