George Michael Wembley security story

The back seat is where George Michael happened to be sitting in 2007, riding toward Wembley Stadium for a concert that ranked among the biggest of his whole career. What nobody warned him about was the guy working the gate. Word came down that the man behind the wheel was not the singer. The guard made his case plainly: he'd know the real face on sight, and this face was not it. So the car sat there, and from the back, George Michael just listened to the entire back-and-forth unfold. Anger never entered it. Laughter did. Even then, the guard wanted some proof of identity before the car could roll through. Looking back on the whole thing, George Michael called it "brilliant" and clearly found it funny as hell. Here's the part that lands hardest. That same weekend, he took the stage at the rebuilt Wembley, and no music artist had ever headlined that new building before him. So a name can pack an entire stadium and still stall you at the gate. That's exactly what made it special.
