Largest Cadmium-Producing Countries 2023

Most people don't know cadmium mostly falls out of the zinc refining process, not some dedicated mine of its own. Where does it end up? Rechargeable battery tech, color pigments, surface coatings, plus a handful of niche industrial jobs. The 2023 numbers come via World Mining Data 2025, part of the Worldly Original Content series, all counted in metric tonnes. China sat way out front with 9,000. South Korea hit 4,500. Canada landed 1,800, Japan 1,750, Kazakhstan 1,200, Mexico 1,021, Russia 902, Australia 900, Netherlands 726, Peru 494, Uzbekistan 470, Norway 420, United States 375, Bulgaria 306, North Korea 150, Germany 112, and Brazil rounded it out at 100. Add it all up and reported global output for 2023 hit 24,226 tonnes. China alone was 37.15% of that, and China plus South Korea together made up 55.73%. World Mining Data lists 17 producing countries for the year.
