Will Smith passing on The Matrix so he could headline Wild Wild West in 1999 might be the biggest missed opportunity the movies ever handed us. Picture Neo squaring off against a giant steampunk spider. That is peak cyberpunk, no debate. What actually hit theaters gave us Kenneth Branagh and "whoop that trick" instead. I keep coming back to that cyberpunk timeline we never got, and it stings every time.
