Sweet November Keanu Reeves Charlize Theron

What if the person who changes your entire life is only temporary? Sweet November asked that in 2001 and Hollywood still has not recovered. Charlize Theron plays Sara Deever, a free spirit who already knows how her story ends and decides to spend what is left loving without holding back. Keanu Reeves is Nelson Moss, an ad executive whose entire personality is his job until he loses the job and the girlfriend in the same stretch. She offers him one month, November, and he takes it because there is nothing else left to take. What follows is not a romance so much as a demolition. She opens him up, he falls, and then she tells him about the terminal cancer. She makes him go before the decline can overwrite the version of her he gets to keep. That park scene still guts people 25 years later. And the reason it lands is that the movie never flinches from the stakes. Contemporary romances are terrified of that kind of pain. They want the meet cute and the montage and nothing that costs anything. Sweet November understood that a person can rearrange your whole life in a single month and then leave, and you still have to live in the aftermath. The final goodbye leaves Nelson changed permanently by someone who was only passing through. #CharlizeTheron
