Jim Banks endorses JD Vance 2028

The 2028 chatter starts with Jim Banks, and he's not waiting around. The Indiana senator is putting his name behind a JD Vance presidential run, telling the IndyStar that "Vice President JD Vance is the clear choice in 2028 to carry on our America First agenda and I look forward to supporting him." That puts Banks in a very small group on Capitol Hill willing to say it out loud this early, if Vance actually pulls the trigger on a campaign. And he saved some fire for Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), who's apparently mulling a primary challenge. Banks called it "laughable" that Bacon, who he labeled one of the most irrelevant and anti-Trump members of Congress over the past decade, would even think about running for president. The timing tracks with what happened at the RNC late last week, where Vance gave a speech that got the crowd roaring his name back at him. He even acknowledged how fired up the room was. But Vance has made clear his head is down on the VP job until after the midterms, so any 2028 decision comes later.
