The Odyssey Japan box office debut

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey claimed the #1 spot in Japan's BoxOffice, yet the three-day opening weekend total of $4.2 million including previews falls short of previous entries like Interstellar ($1.6M), Oppenheimer ($2.5M), Dunkirk ($3M), TheDarkKnight ($3.1M), TENET ($4.4M), TheDarkKnightRises ($5.7M), and Inception ($8.9M). An estimated $1 million was added to the tally later, representing a 16.7% decline from the day prior, but positive word of mouth helped the film hold its ground against the local mega phenomenon Chiikawa. Audience reception remains overwhelmingly strong with a 4.4-star rating in Japan, marking the highest score Christopher Nolan has ever achieved in his career.
