Costacurta names Ronaldo GOAT

Alessandro Costacurta puts Ronaldo at the top of his list as the greatest player ever, calling him the best striker he has ever seen. He explicitly ranks the Brazilian above Marco Van Basten in terms of pure ability. The defender describes a playing style that was obsessive and incredibly hard to stop. When marked closely, Ronaldo would seek depth. If you covered space to block that depth, he turned and faced defenders head-on. Costacurta talks about marking this player alongside Paolo Maldini, noting they suffered a lot trying to handle him. He insists that while they have marked legends like Diego Maradona before, Ronaldo presented a greater challenge entirely. The assessment suggests Ronaldo was on another level compared to other opponents they faced.
