Wayne Rooney was 18 years old and playing for Everton when Manchester United faced Dinamo Bucharest in a Champions League qualifying match on August 11, 2004. The game happened at Old Trafford, also known as the Theatre of Dreams, where a young boy held a banner reading Please buy Rooney. At that moment, Rooney was regarded globally as a top rising talent before joining Manchester United. He had scored four goals for England at Euro 2004 in Portugal, even though England exited the tournament in the quarter-finals. Negotiations to sign Wayne Rooney concluded with his transfer to Manchester United on August 30, 2004. Manchester United management invited the fan to the club's official unveiling event. The fan displayed his original banner again at the unveiling ceremony alongside Sir Alex Ferguson. #WayneRooney
