New billboards in Santa Monica are being installed that sync with your phone's lidar as pedestrians pass by, using Radar Connect from Clear Channel Corporation to push ads directly to your screen. You might walk past a Sephora sign and suddenly get an ad on your device without asking for it. Critics call this invasive regarding privacy and light pollution since nobody wanted this. It gets worse because city manager Elaine Polachek supported the legislation while serving on the board of the lobbying company behind it. A conflict of interest went super unnoticed while a crane was already visible at the site doing the installation.
