Becky Lynch states she wasn't scheduled to be the inaugural champion, believing the title was actually meant for Nikki Bella instead. It makes sense given that Nikki was a badass who had just returned from a broken neck injury, yet the audience kind of liked Lynch anyway. Lynch describes that angst as real, recalling how it felt to always almost get the shot only to never be the one picked, never being the person they were going to hand the ball to and say 'Yeah, this is our girl.' Once the title reveal happened, fans started screaming her name so loudly that WWE management had to go with her despite the initial plan favoring someone else.
