    VW factory closures Germany

VW just announced they're shutting down four German manufacturing sites, a move that's going to cost roughly 50,000 jobs as production gets scaled back. The Emden plant, which has been running since 1964 and switched to EVs in 2020 with 8,000 staff, is set to close by 2031. Zwickau, operating since 1904 and becoming a VW hub in 1990 before pivoting to electric in 2020 with 9,000 employees, also shuts in 2031. Hannover, the home of transporters, trucks, and the ID Buzz EV since 1955 with 15,000 workers, will be gone by 2032. Neckarsulm, the original Audi founding site making cars since 1969 with 15,500 people, won't stop until 2034. This isn't just restructuring; it feels like a death spiral where recovery looks impossible. The fear is that VW ends up as a tiny niche player or gets swallowed whole by a Chinese company. #Volkswagen #AudiAG
